Today, that is the case with the introduction of the Dell XPS 18; a new All-in-One Windows 8 PC with an 18.4-inch multi-touch display, battery-powered (up to 5 hours on a single charge) and with a price starting of $899. This new machine looks more like a large tablet than an All-in-One PC. The Dell XPS 18 is the thinnest and lightest form factor PC the company has ever offered. The latest AiO machine from Dell features a 1080p (1920 x 1080 pixel) display with an Intel ULV dual-core processor, 4GB of RAM and a 320GB hard drive. And for customers willing to pay more, they can get an Intel Core i7 processor with 8GB of RAM and up to 512GB of solid state drive. It also features an aluminum frame that is 18mm thick with soft grip back, an adjustable powered stand (sold separately for $49), and a flip-out feet so you can set it on a desk or surface. Of course, people can also set it flat like a tablet for collaboration or read any type of content. Dell’s portable All-in-One isn’t the only one, Sony Vaio Tap 20, for example, is pretty much in line on specs and shape, but unlike the XPS 18, it weighs around 11 pounds. So it isn’t very portable, taking in consideration that Dell’s newest PC weighs just under 5 pounds. Also recently ASUS announced a similar product, the Transformer AiO, which is two computers in one. As a docked PC runs Windows 8 with an Intel processor and as a tablet it runs Android’s Jelly Bean operating system with a Tegra 3 processor. Interesting design and concept, but not very suited for people who need to multitask between the two operating systems, as you can not seamlessly migrate your work and applications between OSs. The new ASUS Transformer AiO has a starting price of $1,200. The new Dell XPS 18 not only has a better design, but it also seems more portable, more productive, and more affordable for people planning on their next semi portable All-in-One Windows 8 PC. Dell is scheduled to ship the new device on April 16th in United States and in select countries in Europe. All content on this site is provided with no warranties, express or implied.
