The updated Ultrabook looks like a premium device all around, even the screen resolution has been bumped up to an optional 3,200 x 1,800 IPS touch-enabled screen. This is a huge improvement over the 1,366 x 768 pixels seen in previous versions. At its thinnest point the device measures 9mm and 15mm at its thickest point. Like in previous versions, the updated XPS 13 is built from aluminum and carbon fiber keeping weight to 2.6 pounds and 2.8 pounds for the touch-enabled version.

As for tech specs, under the hood, the Dell XPS 13 uses the latest fifth-generation “Broadwell” Intel Core processors, the base model starts with Core i3 (2.1GHz) and up to Core i5 or Core i7 (3.2GHz). It includes 4GB or 8GB of RAM, and a 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB SSD storage. The size does not affect the keyboard size either. You will still get a full-size backlit keyboard with a much-improved trackpad that is said to work great with Windows 8.1. The new trackpad uses a glass button and a precision trackpad, which is something that Microsoft has been pushing to manufacturers.

Dell also claims up to 15 hours of battery life on a single charge, which is a lot considering that this Ultrabook is operating a 3,200 x 1,800 pixels screen resolution. It is worth noting that the XPS 13 has such a thin bezel that caused the integrated webcam to be moved at the bottom left corner of the screen. (Placement that I found really odd.) Dell is also updating the XPS 15, but not significantly as the XPS 13, the new version of the Ultrabook only includes a 4K touchscreen display. And it will continue to ship with the 4th-generation of Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors and Nvidia’s 750M graphics. The Dell XPS 13 goes on sale on January 6th, at a starting price of $800, while the XPS 15 is coming soon and it won’t come cheap, it will cost $2,439.
