Unlike other rapid releases — six-week roll out cycles –, this time around FF15 brings interesting new improvements and features worth upgrading. For starters the most noticeable change is that the browser has finally switched to the “silent update” model. This means that the browser will automatically detect and download any new updates in the background, apply and finish the installation the next time the web browser gets restarted without the need of user intervention, same as Google Chrome. This will put to sleep the need to manually download and upgrade the browser every 6 weeks or click if you want to update — we’ll see if it works in six weeks. Moreover, the Mozilla team has announced that the newest build reduces system memory usage for certain add-ons, which makes the browsing experience a little bit better and more responsive. Firefox 15 also includes support for compressed textures that boost video game experience on the web with WebGL.
