As we all experienced with every feature that the social network released in the past, privacy is always a concern for users. As such, the company is letting people know how the new feature works, that way there are no implications later on. Facebook explains that users will only see content in their search results that has already been shared with them. This basically says that if you have some personal content limited to a selected group of people, only those people will see that content showing up in their search results, if they ever query that information. Essentially everyone gets a different search result for each query, pretty much like everyone has their unique News Feed. In the video Julia, an engineer at Facebook, walks you through how to manage Facebook Graph Search with the content you share. For example, in the video Julia notes that she speaks Spanish and on Facebook. Now because she specified that detail in her account and shared it with her friends, only they will be able to find her if they ever search for people who speak Spanish. The engineer also points out that the problem comes with pictures. If someone has uploaded a picture of you, you can take down from the Timeline, but it will still show up in search results. The answer to this problem doesn’t change to what you’ve been doing in the past: remove the tag and request to that person to remove the pictures, that is the only way that it will be out of the social network.
