Like previous version of the iMac the components are the same. The motherboard and controllers are exactly the same as the previous versions of iMac. The solid-state drive is same as the one found in the latest MacBook Pro. However the big deal here is that the new iMac with Retina 5K display has a new line of Intel’s processors and a new AMD Radeon R9 M290X graphic chip with 2GB of GDDR5 video memory that is powerful enough to drive 14.7-million pixel in that stunning new 5K resolution 27-inch display.
As for repairability the iMac 27” with Retina 5K display received a score of 5 out of 10 as the RAM, hard drive, processors, and other components are easily replaceable. However the glass and LCN are fused together, and this time around magnets aren’t holding the glass in place anymore.
