This is an unusual number and Microsoft hasn’t given an answer yet to why that number, it only said this will make it more flexible. I know that many of you will think because Windows “8.1”, but it could be just coincidental. To my surprise the primary source requesting a bigger app roaming limit came from developers, even though paid app revenue could technically go down 16.5x, if there is anyone person with 81 devices. On the other hand the new change could also be beneficial for those apps that receive revenue from in-app purchases and ads. The new limit will rollout on October 9th, 2013, and it will available for everyone who install an app from the Store using Windows 8 or Windows 8.1. Keep in mind that Microsoft is only offering the option to beef up app roaming up to 81 devices, but developers can choose to ignore and restrict this number.
