If you’re unfamiliar, Kodi is an open source media player application that has been around for years, and it gained its popularity thanks to its media format support and extensibility using third-party add-ons. (Though, a lot of its popularity also came from the large number of add-ons from third-party developers that allow people to stream copyrighted content without paying.) It was previously known as Xbox Media Center (XBMC), because it was designed for the original (hacked) Xbox console, but then it was ported to Windows and Linux, and because the name was no longer suitable, it became Kodi. This is the first version of the app (totally fine to use) that gets published in the Store for Xbox One, Xbox One S, and Xbox One X, but it’s in the early days of development, as such this is not a complete version like the one for PC. According the XBMC Fundation group, this preview doesn’t include access to the Xbox One Blu-ray drive, external hard drive support, limited access to the Xbox One video and music locations, and you can only use the NFS protocol to connect to network folder shares. Furthermore, add-ons are currently not available at this stage.
