People who had the chance to play with HP Envy 17 Leap Motion Special Edition (Yes! That’s the name of the laptop) are reporting that the controller is very responsive. Now let’s talk about the hardware inside this devices.

The HP Envy 17 features very modest hardware: a 17.3-inch 1920 x 1080 pixels touchscreen display (redundant but useful), latest Intel Core i7 Haswell processor, 1TB of internal storage drive, with the option to upgrade to a Nvidia graphic processor and faster hard drive. This device by default doesn’t feature a Solid-State Drive. And it also comes built-in with beats audio. This particular Leap Motion sensor is 70% smaller that the external peripheral and it can recognize gestures from two hands and 10 fingers. For what I understand the sensor should work with any app, but Leap Motion also offers a bunch apps you can download for free to take advantage of this new technology. Also if you ever want to turn it off, just press space+function in the keyboard.
I think the most interesting thing to notice here is how far have we come and how many ways to interact with computers we’re seeing today. First only existed the keyboard, then the mouse came along, touchscreen came next, follow by voice, which still improving at a decent pace, and now you can control apps without even touching the screen. Of course, this new motion controller isn’t something that everyone has to have, but just think of the applications with drawing, manipulating 3D objects, or a doctor who can interact with a PC without getting their hands dirty. The HP Envy 17 Leap Motion Special Edition will start at $1,049.99 and will be available on October 16th, 2013, two days before Windows 8.1 releases. So if you’re thinking on getting one, I would recommend you to buy it after the new update of Windows comes out, that way you don’t have to deal with the installation.
