On March 8th the company is planning to release an update which will include a pop-up that reads “Windows XP End of Support is on April, 2014. Click Here to learn more”, and it will appear on the desktop, that way consumers cannot play the ignorance card anymore. However there is one problem, the only ones who will get the notification are those who have Windows Update enabled, which means that less tech savvy users who probably don’t have Windows Update enable or always ignore to update won’t get the pop-up reminder. If you’re still running Windows XP, this is the best time to move on, as Microsoft is also offering a free migration tool called PCmover Express, a software from Laplink that will help you to move files and settings from Windows XP to any Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows 8.1 PC. The software will be available for download at no extra cost from WindowsXP.com later this week. Furthermore, for those customers who are not sure which operating system they are running, Microsoft has created a web page that can automatically tell you if you’re running Windows XP with a countdown clock reminding users how much time is left for the 13-year old operating system.
