The software giant isn’t redesigning the app, as the Remote Desktop Preview app looks and feels almost identical to the app released for Windows 8.x. However, it has been rebuilt as a Windows 10 app and the user-interface has been adapted to support all screen sizes. This means that options to connect to a remote computer through Remote Desktop Gateway, access Remote Resources, manage credentials and Gateways, and change settings are available in your PC, tablet, and phone. While using Continuum for phones users can get access to many of the new Universal Windows apps to get their work done. On Windows 10 Mobile users cannot use desktop applications, and the Remote Desktop app unlocks the possibility to connect to a remote computer to use this kind of applications making you more productive. However, remember that you need a compatible Windows handset to use Continuum, such as Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL, a Microsoft Display Dock or Miracast capable devices, a mouse and keyboard, and external monitor to make it all work.
In addition, Microsoft has recently added the ability to connect to Remote Resources (RemoteApp and Desktop Connections) that have been made available in your organization, which allows you to get access to certain apps or full desktop to get your work done faster while on the go. And there is a new set of options to define when to use keyboard commands with a remote session, such as when you’re in full screen session, limited only to the local PC, or when a remote session is in use. The company says that the Remote Desktop Preview Universal app is still a work in progress, and users can expect more features in a near future, including Azure RemoteApp support. In mobile devices, the app works in portrait and landscape mode, but in the first preview only portrait mode is currently available. Microsoft’s Remote Desktop Preview is already available for download through the Windows Store for Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile, and other devices running Windows Phone 8.1, Windows 8.1, iOS, Mac OS X, and Android.
