The May 25, 2016, driver updates for the Surface line doesn’t include a lot of major changes, but users will notice some improvements on how the devices handle battery in connected standby and in low battery situations. In addition, there are also some improvements on Wi-Fi connectivity and storage. Below you can see all the new changes arriving with the May 25th release.
Surface Book driver updates for May 2016
Surface Embedded Controller: “adjustments to system thermal tuning and optimizes battery utilization in connected standby and in low battery scenario.” Surface Management Engine: “improves system stability resuming from sleep or hibernation and increased reliability of touch and pen capabilities.” Marvell AVASTAR Bluetooth Radio Adapter: “enhances Wi-Fi driver settings to support Gulf region.” Marvell AVASTAR Wireless-AC Network Controller: “enhances Wi-Fi driver settings to support Gulf region.” Intel Precise Touch Device: “improves touch stability.” Surface NVM Express Controller: “improves stability of NVMe Storage.”
Surface Pro 4 driver updates for May 2016
The Surface Pro 4 shares a lot of hardware similarities with the Surface Book, as such in this release the Surface Pro 4 includes all the same updates as I’m listing above for the Surface Book, plus the following update.
Fingerprint Cards AB driver: “increase stability of fingerprint sensor when keyboard is resuming from sleep.”
The Surface Update History page for both devices also explains that the company is rolling out the driver updates on stages, which means that not everyone will get the new updates at the same time. However, you can always go to Settings > Update & security > Windows Update and try manually forcing the download.
