The firmware updates had been available since December 3, and they are available for devices running Windows 10 version 1903 and all the way to version 20H2.
Surface December 2020 firmware update
The improvements in this firmware update are virtually identical for all the Surface Pro and Laptop line of devices:
Realtek Hardware Support Application – Software components 11.0.6000.92: Improves application stability during audio playback. Realtek High-Definition Audio (SST) – Sound, video, and game controllers 6.0.8936.1: Improves audio performance and battery life. Realtek High-Definition Audio (SST) Extension 6.1.0.6: Improves integration between system services. Surface Integration Driver Service – System devices 6.105.139.0: Improves integration between system services.
In addition to these changes, the Surface Laptop 2 also includes a fix to prevent Blue Screen of Death with the Surface Serial Hub Driver. The update should download and install automatically, but if your device hasn’t received the patch, then you can download the firmware manually from Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and try to force the download manually.
