On Windows 10 build 14361 the software maker is improving the Windows Ink experience on Surface devices and around Windows Ink Workspace. Perhaps the most noticeable change coming in this build is the new updated Settings app, which ditches light-gray colors in favor of pure white and a number of other tweaks. The latest Windows 10 Anniversary Update preview also includes a slew of bug fixes and improvements for both PC and Mobile. As always there are a number of known issues for both platforms that users should be aware of before installing. Here are all the new changes and enhancements Microsoft is officially announcing in the latest Anniversary Update of Windows 10.

Windows Ink

On the new pen experience, which Microsoft calls “Windows Ink”, now includes a ruler that is long to span across the entire display of a Surface Book. Sketchpad has been improved to load thumbnails faster in Windows Ink Workspace flyout. The Touch Inking icon in the Windows Ink Workspace has been updated, the “clear all” and trash can icon options have been made more discoverable in the Sketchpad, and there is also an important fix with the Windows Ink pencil tool to address a flickering issue.

Settings app

The Settings app is usually where Microsoft puts many of its improvements, and on build 14361 there are some important changes. The home and the navigation pane are now completely white or black when you’re using the dark mode.

In order to make clear where you’re located in Settings, you’ll now also notice a small block that takes the color from your current theme. Also, clicking anywhere in the Home button area at the top-left will take you to the main page of Settings.

Action Center

On the Action Center flyout, Microsoft is also updating the Quick Action Network button with a new icon to make clear what the button does.

Desktop

On the desktop side there aren’t visual changes, but on Windows 10 build 14361, you can now use Docker natively on Windows 10 with Hyper-V Containers. With this update, you can build, ship, and run containers using Windows Server 2016 Technical Preview 5. For those people using virtualization, there is a new Docker engine for Windows to extend the support of containers. For more details, check the Microsoft documentation on this topic.

Microsoft Edge

On this preview, Microsoft Edge doesn’t seem to include any significant changes, but users can now try the LastPass extension to manage their password across devices and platforms. As we get closer to the release of the Anniversary Update, like we see with the new preview, there aren’t any major changes or introduction of new features. Windows 10 build 14361 is available immediately through the Fast ring of updates. It’ll download and install automatically on your PC and Windows 10 Mobile handset, but you can always force the update from Settings > Update & security > Windows Update and clicking the Check for updates button. Along with the new features and improvements, Microsoft is also listing the new bug fixes and known issues for the latest test version of Windows 10.
