On a continuous effort to help users to protect their devices and data, along with software updates, Microsoft has announced that is helping Intel to distribute firmware updates for affected newer processors. The latest Intel microcode comes bundled with update KB4090007 and is available as standalone update (not via Windows Update) for some Skylake devices running the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. However, the company says that additional firmware updates will be available as soon as Intel is ready to distribute them. Microsoft says that has been working with antivirus companies to ensure updates are compatibles with third-party antivirus. However, you’re still required to make sure that your computer is running the latest version of the antivirus before installing updates like KB4090007 to prevent running into issues. It’s worth noting that Intel has also been proactively releasing microcode updates for many of its processors through its own channel. Recently, the chip manufacturer released updates for Skylake, Kaby Lake, and Coffee Lake processors, including the Core X-series, Xeon Scalable, and Xeon D processors. If you have a computer running a Skylake processor, you can download the KB4090007 update through the Microsoft Update Catalog. The installation is pretty simple too, just double-click the file and the update will install automatically.
