According to the official announcement, the May 2022 update bumps the Android version number to 12.1, introduces significant integration improvements on Windows 11, and you will find a new settings experience.

WSA May 2022 update

As part of the rollout, Microsoft is rolling out the experience with Android 12.1. Telemetry comes disabled by default. And the networking stack received an update that allows Android apps to connect to devices in the same network and your computer. The Windows Subsystem for Android version 2204.40000.19.0 also introduces an overhauled settings interface. The settings have been reorganized into groups with navigation for a cleaner and easy-to-understand experience. In addition, the company added a diagnostic data viewer where you can examine all the diagnostic data and configuration options to turn on fixes for specific apps, such as forcing apps to be non-resizable or enabling swipes for arrow keys. The experience is now better integrated into Windows 11. For example, the Taskbar now shows the Android app using the microphone, location, and other services in the system tray, and an auto-hidden Taskbar will now correctly hide or show when Android apps are running. Windows 11 will show Android notifications as native notifications, and the Window title of an Android app will now reflect the Android activity title. Also, Android apps won’t require a restart after the computer comes out of connected standby. As part of the camera and input changes, this update fixes camera orientation, incorrect camera preview, bugs with letterboxing, and a problem squishing the camera feed is now fixed. Finally, this release improved scroll-wheel support, fixed onscreen keyboard focus, and the Android software keyboard now appears correctly. The update also comes with some known issues. For example, you will find stability problems with the camera on ARM devices and printing through Android apps, some apps will render at lower resolutions, some VPNs may not work, and some apps may be missing, fail to launch, or won’t work as expected. The Windows Subsystem for Android update should download and install automatically. However, you can always download it manually from the Library’s page in the Microsoft Store app and by clicking the “Get updates” button. Update June 2, 2022: Microsoft is expanding the rollout of the update to all Insiders. Also, the update number has bumped from 2204.40000.15.0 to 2204.40000.19.0.
