Alright, because I wrote $699 in the headline, I’ll start with Dell. The now privately owned PC maker has announced at CES 2014 that will start shipping the Dell P2815Q. This is a 28-inch, 3840 x 2160 Ultra-HD desktop PC monitor; it features HDMI, DisplayPorts, USB hub, and you even get to charge your smartphone and project content with MHL connectivity. As you can read this is a great deal, but there is something you have to know, in order for Dell to sell this monitor at $699 you’ll be sacrificing refresh rate, from the old-time 60Hz standard down to 30Hz. This is a very important piece of information as pretty much all 1080p TVs run at least at 60Hz and now the trend is 120Hz and even 240Hz.
Now, the Lenovo ThinkVision Pro2840M and ASUS PB287Q, same 28-inch 4K (3840 x 2160 pixels) screen resolution desktop PC monitors cost an additional $100, so you’ll be spending $799, but they do run at 60Hz using the DisplayPort — of course that before buying, you’ll have to make sure you have a video card that support this type of connectivity.
If you’re looking forward to get the Dell P2815Q, then you’ll be happy to know that the company will start shipping the monitor on January 23rd. Lenovo is planning to ship the ThinkVision Pro2840M sometime in April, and finally ASUS will start selling the PB287Q sometime in the second quarter of 2014. Which one do you prefer? In my option I would probably choose the ASUS 4K monitor and it would be awesome to connect to the Razer Christine concept PC. They would make an awesome Windows 8.1 PC.
